#10 – The Analog Renaissance
The rise of AI creates a cultural reaction: the Analog Renaissance. The physical, tangible, and shared is revalued.
Veo 3 and Seedance
Since the arrival of Veo 3, the illusion of reality fades a little more. If it was already hard to tell reality from AI in some videos, now it's practically impossible.
This week Seedance, TikTok's video AI, was introduced. It's almost as good as Veo 3 and 10 times cheaper.
If social networks were already starting to fill up with fake, AI-generated content, now we'll see an explosion and automation of that content, especially on TikTok.
It's possible that the effect of this new flood of content will trigger a reaction towards true reality, the physical one.
The Analog Renaissance
I increasingly read about the concept of the Analog Renaissance, as a reactionary movement to the massive entry of AI into human spaces, where people move to seek new spaces of safety where the real is real.
It reminds me a bit of the rise of live music as a response to the oversupply of free music on platforms. What loses value in the digital environment is revalued in physical settings.
Or the third places, which we talked about here as an organic reaction towards seeking genuine connections
I also connect this with the increasingly emerging spaces for quiet listening, the listening bars, where vinyl records are played and the energy is shaped to reduce the anxiety of digital media consumption.
And with the rise of bookstores, especially in the USA, which, in addition to meeting the highest demand for reading, in print, also establish themselves as third spaces for people to disconnect from digital life.
Will artificial intelligence make people start reading newspapers again? Even paper ones?
